The end of the MBA road
April 26th, 2011 - 1 Comment
One of our second year students walked into my office yesterday looking as happy as I have ever seen him. I told him “I recognized that smile, it’s the ear to ear grin of a second year student who has completed their course work, completed their APEX presentation, and is ready to graduate.”
As the academic year comes to an end so does the MBA life for our second year students. They will be moving across the country and around the world as their post MBA life begins.
The end of a student’s 2 years is both a happy and sad time. After two years of working as hard as possible in pursuit of academic excellence, the idea of moving that drive to the professional world can be a welcome change. The idea of a paycheck isn’t bad either.
Graduation can also be a sad time for many MBA’s as well. It’s true the friendships built through your 2 years as a Smeal MBA do last a lifetime, but after graduation you will go from seeing all these great friends every day, to just seeing some of them every now and again. However, for one door to open, another must close.
Here in 220 feelings are mixed as well come this time every year. We will miss the outgoing students terribly, but at the same time are filled with pride at what they have grown into over their two years. There is also an excitement to welcome another new group into the program this fall, getting to know them, and seeing them begin to set off down the road.
